HOLY CROSS, IOWA
Harriet L. Maiers, 87, of Dyersville and formerly of Holy Cross died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, Iowa.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Kramer Funeral Home in Holy Cross where a parish vigil service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Holy Cross with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.
Harriet was born January 16, 1927 in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Alphonse and Antoinette "Nettie" (Deppe) Wegmann. She attended grade school at SS. Peter & Paul in Petersburg and finished high school at Xavier High School in Dyersville with the Class of 1944. She worked as a secretary at H&W Trucking in Dubuque for a few years. She married Leon Maiers on May 4, 1949, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg and together they farmed near Holy Cross. Harriet was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 881 and the Holy Cross Rosary Society. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing with the grandchildren, baking, traveling, and serving others. She was known for her kind and gentle heart.
Survivors include her husband, Leon; 5 daughters: Mary (Sam) Bran of Solon, IA, Rose (Ed) Bracken of Iowa City, IA, Jan (Doug) Brimeyer of Jackson, WY, Carol (John) Eubank of Urbandale, IA and Jean (Mark) Gaul of Farley, IA; 14 grandchildren: Jacob and Sarah Bran, Adam, Eric and Katie Bracken, Kyle and Ashley Brimeyer, Luke, Josh, Matthew and Megan Eubank, Austin, Brady and Carter Gaul; siblings: Ralph (Leona) Wegmann of Farley, Ambrose "Butch" (Pat) Wegmann of Delhi, LuAnn (Bob) Mescher of Strawberry Point;
in-laws: Eddie (Laura) Maiers of Asbury, Clete (Shirley) and Al (Pat) Maiers, both of Dubuque, Eileen Kluesner of Farley, Norma Maiers of Dyersville and Patricia (Sal) Willenbring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and in-laws: Armella (Larry) Weiferich, Dorothy (Art Esch and Emmett Pfeiler), John (Vickie) Wegmann, Alvin (Sally) Wegmann, Eileen (Jack) Meder, Wilmer Maiers and Jerry Kluesner.
A memorial fund has been established and memorials are preferred.
