LUXEMBURG, IOWA
Joseph A. Langel, 90 of Luxemburg died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 4:00
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate.
Joe was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Luxemburg, IA the oldest son of Frank and Mary (Menke) Langel. He grew up on the farm south of Luxemburg and finished 8th grade at Holy Trinity School. He married Marilyn Heims on Oct. 1, 1952, in Delhi, IA. Together they farmed north of Luxemburg until moving into Luxemburg in 1989. Joe carried a passion for farming his entire life.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; 5 children: Marty (Beth) Langel of Luxemburg, Lisa (Alex) Hall of Olive Hill, KY, Roger (Elaine) of New Vienna, Patty (Sandy) Graham of Minneapolis, MN and Rick (Kim) Langel of Ankeny; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Langel of Muscatine; 13 grandchildren: Brandon Langel, Katie (Tony) Harris, Jenny (Luke) Bockenstedt, Jeremy (Gayle) Langel and Kristi Langel, Elizabeth (Brian) McNeil and Robert Hall, Tyler and Staci Langel, Calum and Ella Graham, and Amber and Austin Langel; 4 great grandchildren; Madalene McNeil, Wesley Hall, Hayden Langel and Will Bockenstedt; 2 sisters, Rosie White of Dyersville and Barbara Farzan of Monterey, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice Langel of Dyersville and Germaine Langel of Luxemburg.
He was preceded in death by son, Dave Langel, a grandson, Ryan Langel, 2 sisters: Marie (Peter) Berns and Agnes (Lawrence) Heims; 2 brothers: John Langel and Francis Langel; 3 brothers-in-law: Ed Heims, Gerald White and Manny Farzan.
