DYERSVILLE, IOWA
Ruth M. Lansing, 86, of Dyersville died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville surrounded by her family.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday (today) August 24, 2014, at the Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 2:00 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate and Revs. Richard Gaul and Al Vorwald will concelebrate.
Ruth was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Dyersville the daughter of Alfred and Rose (Olberding) Klosterman. She attended the St. Francis Independent Country School. She married Joseph A. Lansing on June 21, 1951, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica. Together they farmed east of Dyersville. Ruth worked at Hentges Hardware and at the Field of Dreams, and made and decorated wedding and all occasion cakes.
Ruth had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin and instilled that devotion to her children and grandchildren. She loved her family deeply and was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and worked at Xavier Bingo for 30 years. Ruth was an historical and genealogy author who penned three family history books, St. Francis Country School Grotto, and St. Francis Country School. She maintained the grotto on Dyersville East Road for over 50 years.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Lansing; 2 children: Diane Lucas (special friend Ray Huegerich) of Breda, IA, and Dan (Deb) Lansing of Dyersville; seven grandchildren: Greg (Mary) Lucas, Amy (Jake) Van Scoyoc, Sarah (Andy) Johnston, Steve (Carmen) Lansing, Tom (Mandy) Lucas, Kevin (Molly) Lansing and Kelly (Eric) Klein; 10 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way; 2 sisters: Vera Kroeger and Lila Clemen, both of Dyersville; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lorraine Klosterman and Verna Klosterman, both of Dyersville; Jerome (Mary Margaret) Lansing and Arthur (Bernice) Lansing, both of Dyersville, John (Rita) Lansing of Farley, William (Joan) Lansing of Worthington, Catherine (Hugo) Engelken of Petersburg, Verna Rose (Leroy) Bries of Guttenberg and Leon (Betty) Mullis of Waterloo, and a son-in-law, Rick Lucas of Carroll.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 children, Steve in infancy and Karen in a tractor accident in 1966; 2 sisters, Virginia Klosterman and Rita (Jim) Deutmeyer, 2 brothers, Art Klosterman and Alfred Klosterman; brothers-in-law: Gary Kroeger, Vince Clemen, Lawrence (Amanda) Lansing, Wilma Mullis and Fr. Augustine Dreiling, O.S.B.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Francis Xavier Basilica.
