Daughter of Adler and Amy (Gourgues) Madere; Lucille was born on April 14th, 1939 in her hometown of Hahnville, Louisiana. The love of her life was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana where she met and married Robert J. Ludovissy Sr., on April 12th, 1958. "Lulu", as she liked to be called, moved north to make a life with her husband, in his home state of Iowa. She was blessed with five children; four proud sons and one beautiful daughter. Lucille was a stay at home mom until 1975, when she and her husband purchased the "Someplace Else Bar and Grill" in North Buena Vista, Iowa.
She spent 35 plus years serving customers with fine food and quenching the thirst of many, until her health relinquished her activities. Lulu was a hardworking woman and a loving wife and mother. Lucille's favorite place was in the kitchen. She loved cooking for family and friends, so it wasn't odd to see her dancing around the stove top, with ladle in hand, cooking up a new recipe or settling for her favorite southern dish of red beans over rice. Her leisure activities included needlework, sewing, and fishing. A night out on the town usually consisted of a trip to one of the local casinos to pull a handle or two, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and grandchildren. Full of the gift of giving and her charm for southern hospitality, Lulu always took care of her family above anything else in her life.
Surviving are her husband of fifty-six years, Robert J. Ludovissy Sr., of North Buena Vista, Iowa, her five children, Robert (Kim) Ludovissy Jr., and Christopher (Linda) Ludovissy, both of Guttenberg, Iowa, Siva (John) Beadle and Coulter (Amy) Ludovissy, both of Dubuque, Iowa, Troy Ludovissy of North Buena Vista, Iowa, former daughter-in-law, Gina Ludovissy of Dubuque, Iowa, twelve grandchildren: April (Brian) Penn, Michael (Susan) Ludovissy, Matt, Eric, Jessica, Danny, Steven, Vanessa, Mikayla, Courtney, Megan and Kyle, thirteen great grandchildren, one brother, Adler (Liz) Madere, a special niece, Charlene (David) Medina, both of Luling, Louisiana, a sister-in-law, Katheryn Kennicker of Sherrill, Iowa, a lifelong friend Cathy Haigh, of North Buena Vista, Iowa, and many other wonderful nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ellis Madere, a sister, Joycelyn (Raymond) Hoskin, and a brother-in-law, Frank Kennicker.
Lulu, along with her family, wish to thank Dr. Schoepe, Dr. Smith, Guttenberg and Finley Hospital, Manorcare, Hospice of Dubuque (Cindy and Stacy), and all the staff who have helped with her illness and rehabilitation over the past several years. We were truly blessed to have such kind and compassionate caregivers.
