PETERSBURG, IOWA
VernaMae Scherbring, 85, of Dubuque and formerly of Petersburg, Iowa died Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Ennoble Manor, Dubuque, Iowa.
Friends may call from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014, at Kramer Funeral Home (750 12th Ave SW) in Dyersville where a parish scripture service will be held at 5:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Petersburg with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. John O'Connor.
VernaMae was born on October 3, 1928, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Ernst) Hingtgen. She married Paul Scherbring on April 29, 1988, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colesburg, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2010. VernaMae enjoyed playing cards, bowling, puzzles and cooking. She provided in-home care for the elderly.
Survivors include her 2 sons: Frank (Jeanie) Marshall of Bernard and Rich Watson of Dubuque; 3 daughters: Pam (fiance Randy Reinhardt) Schmitt of Dubuque, Patricia Scales of Highland, WI, and Diane Colson of Linden, WI, 22 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, siblings: Norma Greve, Lorraine (Jack) Salwolke, Mary Ehlers, Lavern (Grace) Hingtgen; in-laws: James (Janice) Scherbring of Colesburg, IA, Myra Rausch of Dyersville IA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul, 2 children: Carol Jean Marshall and Gregory Allen Watson, 2 grandchildren: Monroe and Robin Colson, 1 great granddaughter, Hannah Harwick, siblings: Raymond (Helen) Hingtgen, Bernice (Larry) Vize, Mildred (Bob) Stecklein, Norman Hingtgen and Duane (Janet) Hingtgen;in-laws: Ray Ehlers, Joseph "Jr." Greve, Urban and Fritz Scherbring, Eunice Scherbring, Florence Scherbring, Joseph Rausch.
