David was born July 27, 1961, in Linton, North Dakota to Irvin and Jeanette (Jacobson) Marx, Sr. The Marx family moved to Petersburg in 1964, where David attended SS. Peter & Paul Elementary and graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1979. David earned his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Hamilton College in 1983, and shortly thereafter moved to Austin, Texas to work as a Systems Analyst and Accounting Supervisor for Ryder Truck Rental. Ryder moved him to Dallas, Texas in 1993. In 2001, he became an Application Support Specialist for IPG (Interpublic Group of Companies).
Dave was known for his infectious laugh. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, cooking and spending time with family, friends and his dogs Chelsea and Zoey. In 2011, David had his 50th birthday party which he referred to as "a celebration of life". Two years later, in 2013, David celebrated two very special occasions: celebrating the 10 year anniversary of his liver transplant at Baylor University Medical Center and making his last trip home in May for his Goddaughter's wedding.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Jean and Loras Demmer of Greeley, IA, one brother, Irvin, Jr. "Butch" (Kathleen) of Dallas, TX, four sisters: Susan (Ronald) Thole of Petersburg, IA, Judy (Lonnie) Fry of Greeley, IA, Jane Moriarity (friend Patrick Freiburger, Sr.) of Delhi, IA, Jennifer (Kent) Thoe of Ventura, IA; two step-brothers: Kevin (Doris) Demmer of Dyersville, IA, and Dan Demmer of Fairfax, IA; many nieces and nephews and his dog Zoey.
