Please share a memory of Hildegarde to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hildegarde A. Lueck of Dyersville and formerly of New Vienna died peacefully on January 23, 2014, in her home at the Ellen Kennedy Living Center in Dyersville, Iowa, surrounded by her family. Friends may call from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 27, 2014, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John O'Connor will officiate. Hildegarde was born on March 4, 1923 in New Vienna, Iowa, the daughter of Albin and Helena (Bruggeman) Koopmann. She married Herbert H. Lueck on November 8, 1944, in New Vienna, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised their family near New Vienna. After her husband, Herb, died in 1988, Hildegarde volunteered wherever she could. She was a member of the St. Boniface Altar Society, worked as a teacher's aide at St. Boniface School in New Vienna, laundered church vestments and linens, served as a guide at the Heritage House Museum in New Vienna, and quilted with the parish circle. She enjoyed reading, walking, and doing the daily crossword puzzle. In her later years, Hildegarde loved being of service at her new home, the Ellen Kennedy Living Center in Dyersville. She led the rosary, set up chairs for programs, assisted other residents, and generally was a loving presence to staff and residents alike as she walked the halls. Her life was simple, her faith strong, and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her life. Hildegarde is survived by two sons: Leon (Jean Oberbroeckling) Lueck of Swisher, Iowa, and David (Ann Griffin) Lueck of Des Moines; three daughters: Sr. Karen Lueck, FSPA, of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Janet Lueck of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and Ann (Russ) Knepper of Peosta, Iowa; 5 grandchildren: Sarah (Peter Bachman) Lueck of Takoma Park, Maryland, Nathan (Tina Ward) Lueck of St. Paul, Minnesota, Andy (Carly Estreich) Lueck of Thornton, Colorado, Emily (Michael) Busch of Cuba City, Wisconsin, and Jeremy Knepper of Pella, Iowa; and 6 great grandchildren: Jonah Bachman and Baby Bachman (due soon), Aleia and Elliot Lueck, and Peyton and Parker Busch; and two sisters-in-law: Mary (Berns) Koopmann of Garnavillo, Iowa and Sr. Helen Esther Lueck, FSPA, of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Hildegarde was preceded in death by her husband Herb; her parents; five brothers: Edmond, Raymond, Herb, Cletus, and Alfred; five sisters: Rose, Alvina, Sr. Helen, Mary, and Margaret; several in-laws and other relatives and friends. Special thanks to the staff of the Ellen Kennedy Living Center and the Hospice of Dubuque. The family will be eternally grateful for your kindness and love. Hildegarde loved you all. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Dyersville Health Foundation for the Ellen Kennedy Living Center or to the Hospice of Dubuque.
