MONTICELLO, IOWA

James E. Hunter, 66, of Monticello entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics following a brief, yet aggressive, illness.

Jim was born November 19, 1957 at John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, Iowa, son of Fred and Lorraine (Sternhagen) Hunter. After graduating from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1977, Jim worked at Energy Manufacturing until his retirement in 2022.

Jim, fondly known as “Cat” was a loyal partner, proud parent to his three children, a loving grandfather, and a great friend to many. He never thought twice about helping someone no matter how great the need. His most cherished memories took place when he was garage saling with Deb, entertaining family and friends around a bonfire (especially Leo), tinkering in his shop, and lighting fireworks. Jim took great pride in his home, he loved showcasing his beautiful yard and his locally famous holiday light shows. He was active with the UAW serving as president, vice president, and several terms on the Shop Committee. He was a proud member of CAP, lobbying on state and national levels.

Jim’s family will greet visitors on Saturday May 4th, 2024 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a funeral service, officiated by Father Paul Baldwin, immediately following. Catholic inurnment to be held at a later date.
