Camp’s heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Arnie. Arnie was a wonderful employee of Camp Courageous, from 1983-84, and continued to stay active with the Camp, attending many events. One of my fondest memories of Arnie was when a camper was having some concerns by the river and could no longer walk. The Maquoketa River is about a half-mile from base camp. This was before cell phones & radios. Arnie put this young man on this back and proceeded to climb the very steep Pictured Rocks hill to base camp. An incredible undertaking…but one quickly realized Arnie’s deep love and concern for others, particularly the campers. Arnie and Mary would give the shirts off their backs to help someone in need…we are so sorry....
