Edwin N. “Ed” Schieltz, 94, of Luxemburg, Iowa passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2017, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Iowa with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Noah Diehm will officiate. Ed was born on the family farm on June 17, 1922, in Luxemburg, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Friedman) Schieltz. He was educated at Holy Trinity School in Luxemburg. Ed married Alice Mae Lake on November 16, 1948, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, Iowa. Together they raised seven children on their farm north of Luxemburg. Ed spent his entire life in Luxemburg and was a life-long member of Holy Trinity Parish. Ed spent his early years as a carpenter, but his life-long passion was farming. He farmed until his later years and remained involved with his sons’ and grandsons’ farms. Ed was active with the Clayton County Farm Bureau, Clayton County Extension Office, Holy Trinity Parish Council, RHCL and Leo High School Boards. He was very proud to be a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Trinity parish and was a long-time member of the church choir. Ed loved spending his early mornings “up town” at the 4-Way having orange juice and conversation, watching his beloved Chicago Cubs, cheering for Iowa sport teams and spending time with family and friends, especially the wonderful memories with his card club group. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Alice, seven children: Judy (Stuart) Frenkel of Centreville, VA, Dave (Elaine) Schieltz, Allan “Chub” (Elaine) Schieltz and Mark Schieltz all of Luxemburg, Jan (Bob) Ehrlich of Davenport, IA, Joan (Bob) Gritman of Rochester, MN, and Joyce (Lee) Tenold of Overland Park, KS, 15 grandchildren: Emily (Greg) Bauer, David Frenkel, Allison Frenkel, Mike (Karen) Schieltz, Marcia (Rich) Petsche, Jeff (Jane) Schieltz, Sara (Eric) Zichterman, Tanya (Matt) Bagge, Travis (Katie) Schieltz, Tyler (Kristy) Schieltz, Sam Ehrlich, Noelle Gritman, Lauren Tenold, Nicole Tenold, Jessica Tenold, 19 great grandchildren: Renée and Cecilia Bauer, Austin, Lillian, Ryan Schieltz, Connor, Madalyn, Ethan Petsche, Clare and Gwen Schieltz, Reid and Allie Zichterman, Aiden and Alec Bagge, McClain, Rohan and Campbell Schieltz, Owen and Brynn Schieltz, one brother, Elmer Schieltz of Luxemburg, sisters and brother in law: Grace Schieltz of Luxemburg, Joann Besler of Hopkinton, Esther Klostermann of Dyersville, Bob and Gladys Elgin of Peosta, Wilma Lake of Dyersville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Nicholas and Elizabeth Schieltz, father and mother in law: Edward and Agatha Lake, one brother, Jerry Schieltz, in laws: James Lake, Edward Lake, Bill Besler, Floyd Klostermann and Germaine Schieltz. Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center of Dyersville and Dubuque.
