Bernice F. Steffen-Honkomp, 81, of Dyersville, Iowa died Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at her home. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2016 at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave SW in Dyersville where a parish vigil service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 at Kramer Funeral Home prior to funeral services Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, Iowa with burial in Holy Trinity cemetery, Luxemburg, Iowa. Rev. Jeff Dole will officiate. Bernice was born January 8, 1935 to George and Regina (Hullerman) Ellerbach on the family farm east of Holy Cross, Iowa. She attended Holy Cross Catholic School, graduating from High School in 1953. Bernice married Leander C. Steffen on May 7, 1957 in Holy Cross, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 21, 1980. Together they farmed and raised 6 children. In 1993 Bernice moved to Dyersville. On April 22, 1995 she married Gilbert Honkomp in Dyersville, Iowa. He also preceded her in death on November 6, 2009. Bernice worked at Country Junction Restaurant for 23 years. Her passions were baking pies, crocheting, quilting, and keeping up with her extended family. Bernice is survived by 5 sons and 1 daughter: Wayne (Janice) Steffen of Luxemburg, Julie (Jeff) Wieneke of Dyersville, Terry (Sally) Steffen and Kenneth (Cindy) Steffen both of Luxemburg, Steven Steffen of Worthington, Martin Steffen of Dyersville, 12 grandchildren: 3 great grandchildren: 8 step-children: Ron (Linda) Honkomp, Shirley (Pat) Pirc, LaVern (Joan) Honkomp all of Dyersville, Lou Ann (Gordon) Helle of Elkader, Joyce (Pat) McCue of Shakopee, MN, Margie (Murray) Nelson of Waukee, IA, Janice (Tim) Gansemer of Dyersville and Mary Lee (Stan) McWilliams of Dubuque, one sister, Kay Daly of Bankston, 2 brothers: Bernard Ellerbach of Dyersville, Gerald (Darlene) Ellerbach of Holy Cross, 2 sister-in-laws, Dorothy Ellerbach of Holy Cross, Verna Mae (Walter) Burkle of Dyersville, a brother-in-law, Donald (Anne) Steffen, many nieces and nephews, 25 step grandchildren and 31 step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Leander Steffen, second husband, Gilbert Honkomp, daughter-in-law, Laura Steffen, 3 brothers, Lawrence (Rose), Ernest, & Bill (Gladys) Ellerbach, in-laws, Margaret Ellerbach, Joan Ellerbach, James Daly, Alphonse (Sylvia) Steffen, Agatha (Milton) Lake, Lawrence (LaDonna) Steffen, Grace Steffen and a step granddaughter, Brittany Honkomp.
